About Me

I’m Ravi Shankar aka ravehanker from Chennai, India. I’m a programmer at Amazon, Chennai since late-may 2007.

I did my under-graduation at the College of Engineering, Anna University in Computer Science at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. I spent my four years in college wondering how I got here in the first place and how I amazingly manage to get the same grades irrespective of how I study. I assumed the alias of ravehanker at a DTP centre (many thanks to Ms Word for this suggestion) I didn’t know what it meant then but it souned cool for alias anyway :-) .

I've had the fortune of being introduced to Personal Computer very early in my age as my Dad worked at a leading Computer Hardware Company and I’ve been through the Intel series right from 80286. I did pretty much nothing with computers till I came to college though, except learn to rip them apart and assemble them (although i gave my school mates everywhere the impression that I was a wizard at computers :D ).

I went through a few schools with each one being worse than the previous one academically. They did however have a few teachers(good and bad) who helped me, unintentionally for the most part, become a better person. College helped me develop interest in quizzing, music, poetry, movies, programming contests and programming languages.

I am was essentially a winbie and used Windows whenever possible until recently when I switched to Debian and later, to Ubuntu. I have to agree that I’m pretty happy with my decision. I hang out at #linux-india and #ubuntu-in in FreeNode whenever possible.
