Coincidence or watever…. I was involved in a discussion today in my office abt RoR and java – which is better, why etc… It went along the lines of ror being a single framework etc…. But I m still not too comvinced about the pros of RoR over java … can u discus ?
In my vast expertise gained through one outdated book and two presentations on Ruby, I can tell you that it’s not fair to compare Java (a lanaguage) and Rails (a framework).
What we could do is compare a Java framework (struts?) to Rails. But that would require learning both of them, which has just about the same probability of me scoring an S grade
But hey, who knows? you might get lucky
One point that was put forth by my opponents (in the heated debate!) was that java has got many frameworks(struts, hibernate etc) to choose from and for ruby there is no choice except rails and hence its easy to work with ! Bcos according to them, with choice comes problems
Any comments ?
I don’t think choice is necessarily a bad thing.
But I really have have to really look into those frameworks to even comment on them.
